Pocket Tutorials

Pockets are important!  Did you know that many girls don't have any 'space' to call their own? Therefore, the dress pocket is incredibly important, as it becomes their own private space.
And...there are many ways to make and decorate pockets!  This curved pocket is just one way (our favorite) since it results in cute, sturdy pockets that are easy to sew on (when pinked, pockets can simply be sewn on with a straight or  decorative stitch without 'turning'.  This pocket template is approximately 6" x 4" ).  Please add 2 pockets--not only does it make the dress cuter, it gives the girls more places to hide their treasures!  If you have a different way to decorate pockets, please email and share with us!

Placing Pockets

Placing pockets correctly is sometimes hard!  The best advice it so fold the dress is half and place the pockets just below that mid-line (see photos below).  Watch the video here for a cool 'Elmer's glue' technique from our own Rebecca to help with pocket placement (and other decorative accents for your dress!)  Guess what?  The glue washes out!

Adding Armhole-Cutout to the Pocket

Recently, one of the gals in our group (sorry, I can't remember who gets the credit, maybe Raquel??) came up with the idea to use the cutout from the armhole of the dress and decorate the pocket of that same dress.  That creates a VERY COOL look because it visually pulls the two fabrics together!  Here are some ideas on how to use that little armhole scrap.  If you come up with another idea, please send your pic to us and we'll share it here!
